You Can Homeschool

Simple resources to learn how to homeschool

"I think I want to homeschool."

As soon as that thought crosses your mind, a whole host of other thoughts flood in:

Well yes, but how?

What will my friends and family think?

Is it even legal?

What about socialization?

What if I make a mistake?

What if I ruin their lives?

What if they end up hating it?

Even with incredibly good and strong reasons for leaving public or private school (and I mean really, really good reasons) the status quo keeps pulling us back to what we know and are comfortable with. Change is unsettling, especially when it comes to such a significant thing like our child’s education!

It’s true that not everyone does well with homeschooling.

Many people end up giving up on their convictions and their dreams for the good things they hoped for their children and decide that, well, it was “good enough.” Why? Because there’s a lot to homeschooling and it takes more than good intentions to do it well.

There’s the shift from a traditional classroom to the home. There are issues of dawdling or lack of diligence that can make or break a homeschool day. Then there’s the issue of curriculum and wading through all the options flooding the market costing hundreds of dollars per family to figure out what is or isn’t helpful or worthwhile. There’s the need to schedule and plan and know what to do each day to ensure your time is well spent. Flying by the seat of your pants can only get you so far.

The graphic below shows the predicament of so many parents today who are fed up and ready for something better for their child’s education. It’s a no-brainer to make the decision. The challenge is what to do next.

We started out just like you and had many reservations. But through a lot of research, years of hard work, mistakes, unnecessary purchases, and multiple children, we’ve come to a place now where people ask us for advice! People just starting out want to know how we did it, what mistakes we made and what decisions we landed on in the end. What should they do as they start out on this journey?

It’s hard to convey in a short encounter all that we’ve learned! In fact, it’s not just what we’ve learned, but the life-changing experience homeschooling has been for our families. There is so much out there beyond what they ever told us in school. We’ve had the opportunity to explore the natural world around us from the vast ocean and its bustling tidepools down to the intricate detail of a butterfly wing. We’ve read grand histories and thought provoking classic books together. We’ve read biographies of successful people and learned how they think. Our kids have learned to be independent self-starters and they’re confident in their ability to pursue their own interests. They’ve learned to interact with and hold a conversation with people of all ages. They’ve travelled the world together through the eyes of an adventurer, sang songs of old, read romantic and epic poetry, visited museums, aquariums, planetariums, symphonies, and other venues during the week when there’s no traffic or crowds. They’ve grappled with and discovered the beauty of math and experienced the wonders of science.

Most importantly, we’ve been able to have an intimate part in the moral and spiritual development of our children through materials and experiences that respect our family’s values. We’ve had the opportunity to teach and guide them in discerning ideas that we can’t even predict will come their way in the years ahead. We’ve been able to help them find great joy in life.

We created the course we wished we would have had when we first started homeschooling.

We want the same things we’ve discovered and enjoyed for more people (minus the mistakes and years of struggling to figure it all out!) We created the path we wished we had when we first started. We answer all the questions you have and even those you didn’t even know to ask. We help you avoid the big pitfalls and save you time and money you just don’t need to spend. We’ll walk you through it all and get you on the right path from the very beginning.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
